The castles of the Dukedom of Parma and Piacenza

Itinerary of 3 days and 2 nights
history, wine and food

  • 1st Day:

    Castell'Arquato - Vigoleno - Vernasca - Gropparello - Carpaneto

    From the exit of the highway in Fiorenzuola we quickly reach Castell'Arquato to visit the fortress of the Viscounts .
    Stop at the La Rocca cured meats factory to observe how the DOP cured meats of Piacenza are made, tasting and purchase opportunity.

Next stop is Vigoleno where we'll be visiting the town and the Castle.

Possibility to have lunch at a Farm.

Afterward, on a 25km route across Piacenza's Apennines, we reach Gropparello. Visit to the fortified Castle and, if there is still time, to the "Parco delle Fiabe" (fairytale park) for children in the surrounding woods, and at the Rising Rose Museum.

At the end of the visit we'll descend towards the lowlands in Carpaneto.

Possibility to visit the la Ciocca farm, where they produce the famous wines of Piacenza  such Ortugo and Malvasia (white), Gutturino and Bonarda (red).
For dinner and accommodation we will choose among our farms in the area.

  • 2nd Day:

    Busseto - Soragna - Fontanellato - Sala Baganza Langhirano - Traversetolo

    Breakfast at the farm and departure towards the lowlands of Parma.
    Our first stop will be Busseto, to visit the “Mezzadri” farm where the Parmigiano Reggiano is produced.

    This is the Culatello di Zibello area of production: various factories that deserve a stop are located within a 10km range.
    In Busseto: Dallatana, Le Roncole, Salumificio Minozzi
    In Zibello: La Bastia, La boutique della carne
    In Polesine Parmense: Antica Corte Pallavicina
    In Soragna: Crocedelizia

    Departure for Soragna (11 km) to visit the Meli Lupi fortress, of the Meli Lupi Princes, that still live there.


    Our next stop will be Fontanellato and the San Vitale fortress.

    Going back toward the hills we'll have the chance to visit the fortress of Sala Baganza and make a stop in  Langhirano, area famous for the production of prosciutto.
    Possibility to visit one of the many factories, Salumi Cav. Ilari Alberto or else Prosciuttificio Bedogni Egidio.
    Still in Langhirano we can visit some of the wineries that produce the Colli di Parma wines: Carbognani Anna, Carra di Casatico, Lamoretti
    Our visit ends in Traversetolo for dinner and accommodation.

  • 3rd Day:

    Montechiarugolo - Colorno

Breakfast at the farm and departure for Montechiarugolo where we will visit the Castle.
We will then follow for Colorno (35km), where the famous palace resides.
Before we will stop to vistit and have lunch in a Farm.
The whole afternoon will be dedicated to visiting the Palace.
